Closing

Close and lock a period

Check a period before you close it: once it is locked, its entries can no longer be changed.

Your books are split into periods: quarters with the effective VAT method, half-years with the net tax rate method. Closing a period locks it, and its entries become read-only.

Choose the period

Open Checks and closing, then Closing. On the left, the Period management list is where you choose the period. Each period shows its status:

Status Meaning
Upcoming A future period. Activate it to import and enter entries.
In progress The active period, open for entries
Pending The closing checks have started, but the closing isn’t finished
Locked A closed, read-only period

The card at the top of the page sums up the selected period, for example “Q2 2026 is open”, with the number of entries, drafts and unmatched documents.

Close the period

  1. In the card, click Prepare closing. If the checks have already started, the button reads Resume closing.
  2. ark.flow checks the period. Among other things, it looks at draft entries, whether debits and credits balance, documents without an entry, and the health score.
  3. A blocking issue, such as an entry still in draft, must be fixed before you can close. A warning can be accepted.
  4. Click Close period, or Lock and purge if documents are proposed for purging.

The card then shows “Q2 2026 is closed”.

Reopen or archive a period

  • Activate this period, on a closed period, unlocks it and makes it the active period. The periods before it stay locked. Close it again once you have made your correction.
  • Archive removes a closed period from the list without deleting anything: it remains available to view. Unarchive brings it back.
